The Bhartiya Janata Party has postponed its national executive meet to be held at Chennai from July 21 to September 16.

The venue, however, remains unchanged. Party parliamentary spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra announced this in New Delhi.

"A meeting of senior leaders of the parliamentary party was held at the residence of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Amongst those who attended the meeting included Lal Kishenchand Advani, Jaswant Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Pramod Mahajan, Shri Anant Kumar and other senior leaders of the party.

"It was decided to take up 50 important issues vigourously in the forthcoming session of the parliament that begins on July 25. In view of this, the national executive that was to be held next week in Chennai has been postponed," Malhotra said.

Malhotra also made it clear that Advani will not resign from any of the two posts that he holds.

He said the meeting of the party office bearers would be held on July 23 in which all the important issues would be discussed. 

On July 24, a meeting of the National Democratic Alliance would also be held to chalk out strategy for the session. This meeting would be held at Vajpayee's residence.

Among the issues that the BJP plans to take up include Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's [Images] praise of the British Raj during his speech in Oxford, unemployment, suicides by the farmers, attack on Ayodhya and detection of the illegal migrants from Bangladesh and their deportation.
