Stepping up the offensive on the Volcker committee report, National Democratic Alliance leaders Monday met President A P J Abdul Kalam and urged him to advise Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] to drop External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh from the Union Cabinet.

The delegation, led by NDA covener George Fernandes [Images] and leader of opposition Lal Kishenchand Advani [Images], also requested the President to advise Dr Singh to ensure that lawful investigations into the alleged commission of offences is ordered forthwith.

Natwar Singh has been named as a 'non-contractual beneficiary' by the Volcker Committee report that probed corruption in Iraq's corrupt oil for-food programme.

Reacting to the appointment of the Virendra Dayal committee on Sunday night, the party had said that it lacked the jurisdiction and authority to collect evidence from abroad.
