The Special court on Thursday granted permission to the Anti-Terrorist Squad of Mumbai Police to produce extradited gangster Abu Salem in the Sessions court for getting his custody in connection with Pradeep Jain murder case.

Judge P D Kode also specified that if Salem was granted police custody by the other court, then, after the expiry of the custody, the gangster should be produced before it.

The defence expressed apprehension over the safety of Salem in the Sessions court complex, but the Chief Public Prosecutor Rohini Salian gave assurance that police would ensure strict security for the accused.

She also gave an undertaking on behalf of the ATS that Salem would be produced before the Special court, conducting the trial for serial bomb blast, whenever required.
