Two top ultras gunned down in Kashmir

Security forces on Tuesday gunned down two top militants of al-Badr, including a Pakistani national functioning as divisional commander of the outfit, in Jammu and Kashmir [Images], a police spokesman said.

The police, assisted by Rashtriya Rifles, raided Neloora village of Pulwama district to flush out the hiding militants, the spokesman said.

However, the militants fired at the raiding party and in the ensuing gun battle, the two ultras Sikander Khan alias Mamoon, and Javid Ahmad Bhat of Kupwara district -- were killed, the spokesman said.

Two AK assault rifles and some ammunition were recovered.

In two other operations, a battalion commander of Hizbul Mujahideen Ashiq Hussain War alias Ameer and a Harkat-ul-Mujahideen militant were arrested on Monday, the spokesman said.

The Hizbul militant was arrested by a joint search party of police and security forces at village Batagund in Kupwara district, he said.

He added that an AK rifle, two magazines, 60 rounds of ammunition and two hand grenades were recovered from him.

Police apprehended HUM militant Arshad Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Hurpora village of Shopian, from Pulwama district on Monday, he said, adding that a mobile phone, a hand grenade and a motorcycle were recovered from him.
