PM, Advani to visit quake-hit areas

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] will visit the quake-hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir [Images] on Tuesday.

Dr Singh will make an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by the killer quake, which has so far claimed over 750 lives.

United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi [Images] and Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee toured the affected areas in the state Sunday and assured the people all possible help from the Centre and the state governments in their hour of crises.

Bharatiya Janata Party president and leader of opposition Lal Kishenchand Advani left for Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning to visit the earthquake-affected areas.

The former deputy prime minister also sent a letter to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf [Images] conveying his condolences to the people of the neighbouring country for the death of thousands of people in Saturday's devastating quake, party vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told PTI.
