Quake: Lanka gives $100,000 to Pak

Sri Lanka [Images] on Monday donated USD 100,000 for undertaking relief and rehabilitation work in earthquake hit areas of Pakistan besides dispatching relief supplies like tents and blankets, a senior official.

The island nation has provided financial assistance and sent relief supplies, including tea, plastic sheets and other goods, Sri Lankan Minister for environment, A H M Fowzie told reporters in Islamabad after meeting Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.

He said a team of Sri Lankan doctors with necessary medical supplies will also be rushed to Pakistan to assist in the relief activities, private news agency NNI reported.

The prime minister, during the meeting, expressed gratitude to the Sri Lankan people and the government for extending moral and practical support to Pakistan, it said.

He said Pakistan and Sri Lanka are close friends and expressed the confidence that their relations will further enhance in future.
