In view of the impending winter, the Jammu and Kashmir [Images] government is racing against time to set up quake resistant community homes in Poonch, Uri, Tangdhar and Teetwal areas.

"As the winter is approaching fast, our government is getting ready to undertake construction of earthquake resistant structures," Minister for Roads and Building Gulam Ahmed Mir told PTI.

Mir, who is camping in Jammu alongwith a team of engineers from his ministry, said, "These structures would be constructed in Teetwaal-Tangdhar belt in nearly 15 days and in Uri and Poonch in a month."

Besides setting up over 20 big community centres in Teetwaal and Tangdhar belts, over 30 others would be set up in Uri on war-footing due to winter, the minister said.

Over 10,000 people would be housed in these community centres, he said.

Other central agencies to be included in this reconstruction programme are Housing and Urban Development Corporation, Central Public Works Department, National Buildings Construction Corporation and Central Housing ministry, he said.
