Close on the heels of a policeman from a suburban Mumbai police station allegedly raping a minor, another girl from Navi Mumbai has charged a constable of sexually assaulting her last week, police said on Wednesday.

Constable Hamid Kazi of Nerul police station has been charged by a Bangladeshi migrant of raping her on October 11, after threatening to initiate repatriation process against her for illegally staying in Mumbai, police said, adding that the complaint was being probed but no offence has been registered against the policeman as yet.

The 15-year-old married girl used to work in a dance bar and constable Kazi is alleged to have visited her house in Kakshet village on October 11 and threatened repatriation.

As per the girl's complaint, Kazi raped her in the presence of her husband and left, police added. Kazi returned to the girl's house the next day along with another policeman and the duo allegedly raped her once again, police said, citing the complaint.

Senior Navi Mumbai police officials said the girl had been medically examined following the complaint, which was being verified and statements of the accused recorded, although no offence of rape has been registered against them yet.

Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Vijay Kamble said that the complaint was being verified and it appeared that the girl was an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant.

He said that the complaint had been lodged in the backdrop of strict action taken by the Navi Mumbai police against illegal immigrants, nearly 100 of whom have been booked so far.
