Almost two-thirds of people feel that India and Pakistan should cooperate in the rehabilitation of earthquake survivors, an opinion poll conducted by the South Asian Media Net said.

Some 68.94 per cent of the 1,687 people, who voted in the news website poll, favoured a joint response by the neighbouring countries, while 31.06 per cent opposed any such move, the website said in a press release on Thursday.

Observers say the quake in the South Asia that killed thousands of people could have been a perfect opportunity for both countries to cast aside decades of rivalry and come together to help the survivors.

The South Asian Media Net is an independent website of the South Asian Free Media Association, providing indepth news coverage from across the region.

It also regularly holds opinion polls on issues of national and regional debate.
