Two persons died and four others were injured as heavy rains continued to lash Mumbai for the third consecutive day on Sunday. The civic administration said it continued to be on high alert in view of the heavy rain or thundershowers predicted for greater Mumbai.

A 32-year-old person was electrocuted at a Container Yard on Mulund Link road while a 12-year-old girl died and four others were injured in a landslide at Vikroli on Saturday, fire brigade sources said.

No fresh casualties were reported on Sunday, they said. Heavy to very heavy rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in Greater Mumbai and neighbouring Thane and Raigad districts, the meteorological department said in its forecast.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner Johny Joseph said on Sunday that the present weather conditions are likely to continue till Monday morning. "The civic administration is on high alert and there is no cause for panic," he said.

Meanwhile, suburban trains on the Central railway and western railway are running as per schedule, railway sources said.

The fresh spell of heavy rains since September 9 has inundated several low lying areas, especially in the western suburbs, prompting the authorities to shift over 500 families to safer places in Kurla and Dahisar.
