A special court on Friday allowed Maharashtra Criminal Investigations Department to question jailed sub-inspector Daya Nayak regarding custodial death of bomb blast accused Khwaja Yunus and adjourned to March 14 his bail plea in a disproportionate assets case.Judge S P Mahajan allowed CID's plea to question Nayak on any working day as the latter had revealed during the probe that he had knowledge about Younus' disappearance from police custody.
Younus mysteriously disappeared from police custody on January 10, 2003 when a police jeep carrying him to Aurangabad met with an accident near Ahmednagar. However, co-accused Abdul Mateen alleged that he was tortured in custody as a result of which he died. Later, the court ordered CID inquiry.
The court also adjourned to March 14 bail plea of Nayak, held on charge of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The court also adjourned to March 14 an application filed by Nayak urging that he be shifted from central prison here to any other jail as he was placed in judicial custody and feared threat to his life in central prison.
Nayak, who has killed 83 gangsters in encounters, urged that in central prison members of various gangs were lodged and he feared threat to his life from them. He urged the court to lodge him in Bhoiwada lock up or any other jail but not in cental prison.
