A 26-year-old engineer from Kerala [Images] was shot dead by an unidentified person in Texas on Tuesday, family sources said.

The deceased, Sanal Nathan, was son of Commodore Ravindranathan, Deputy Director General (Navy) NCC, in Delhi [Images].

His mother Valsala is a teacher in a Navy school and sister Sowmya is a medical student.

According to information received, the incident took place at 3.00 am IST on Tuesday when Sanal, along with his fiancee, was travelling in a car.

A man in an inebirated state stopped their vehicle and asked for money.

As Sanal was giving him some money, he was shot at. He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

Sanal's wedding was to be solemnised in December.
