National Security Advisor M K Narayanan accused the media of trying to sabotage the 123 Agreement even before it has been implemented by India and United States. He was responding to a question from rediff.com at President Pratibha Patil's [Images] first home party on Wednesday.

"The media feels that it would have more to write about if the agreement does not take off," he said as he shook hands with former Research & Analysis Wing chief Tharakan in the presence of newspersons.

In response to a question that the United States had pointed out that there is a clause in the agreement that either side could call off the agreement in case it wants to bail itself out by giving one year's advance notice in writing, the NSA said, "If the agreement had to be scrapped a year later then why implement it now? Why don't you let the agreement to go ahead?" he asked.

He was not unduly worried about the showdown between the United Progressive Alliance government headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] and the Left parties headed by Communist Party of India-Marxist general secretary Prakash Karat.

The Left parties have threatened not to support the government if it implemented the 123 agreement in its present form, which takes away India's rights to take independent decisions.

The Left parties will meet on August 17 and 18 to take stock of the situation and decide one way or the other.

"This is a political process. Let it happen," he added.
