No case can be registered against Congress leader Ajit Jogi in the cash-for-MLA scam as he was a caretaker chief minister of Chhattisgarh at that time, according to legal opinion the Central Bureau of Investigation has received.

The premier investigating agency had sought the opinion of Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam in the case, CBI sources said on Saturday.

As per the opinion received by the agency, a case could not be registered as Jogi was a caretaker chief minister and he cannot be booked under Prevention of Corruption Act, Representation of the People Act or the Indian Penal Code, the sources said.
