General elections in Pakistan will be held in the first half of January next year under a caretaker government which will be set up to conduct the polls, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said.

The national parliament and provincial assemblies will complete their terms on November 15 and elections will be held 60 days after that, Aziz said. He said the first phase of the election process has been completed with the presidential election and now general elections will be held in a transparent and free manner.

Aziz said a caretaker government would be in place to conduct the polls in early January.
