Normal life resumed in Srinagar [Images] and other places in the Kashmir valley on Wednesday,  as protests ceased, after the state government revoked the controversial order on forest land transfer to the Amarnath shrine board.

After 10 days of violence, people thronged shops, government offices and business establishments resumed work and educational institutions reopened in Srinagar and other major towns.

This followed withdrawal of the agitation by the two factions of Hurriyat Conference, which asked the people to resume activities, in the wake of the government canceling the land transfer order on Tuesday.

Vehicular traffic and inter-district bus services, which were at a standstill during the agitation, were back on the roads as government offices and banks resumed work.

Five persons were killed and over 450 others, including 100 policemen, were injured in the past ten days in police firing and clashes between the demonstrators and the law enforcing agencies in the valley.
