Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Prakash Karat today met Agriculture Minister and Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar [Images] and discussed the latest situation arising out of the government's attempts to push through the India-United States nuclear deal.

Pawar, who is of the opinion that the concerns of the Left should be kept in mind before taking a final decision on the issue, apprised Karat of the government's views on the issue.

PM wants to quit over nuclear deal

The CPM general secretary is understood to have told Pawar that the government is safe till it does not take any further steps on the nuclear deal.

The NCP chief had an hour-long discussion on the situation arising out of the nuclear deal with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee last evening.

Mukherjee had also held discussions with CPM leader Sitaram Yechury last evening after a series of talks with United Progressive Alliance Constituents who are supportive of the deal but not in favour of early elections.
