World leaders call PM to express solidarity

A number of world leaders, including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, on Friday called up Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] to express their solidarity with India in the wake of the deadly terror attacks in Mumbai.

Besides Brown, other leaders to call up Singh included Afghan President Hamid Karzai [Images], Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.

Dr Singh apprised them about the events and information available with the authorities, the Prime Minister's Office said.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari [Images] and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani [Images] also talked to Singh.

A number of world leaders, including Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, also called up External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee to convey their sympathies, help and support in the wake of the attacks.

Besides Rajapaksa, the calls were made by French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Omanese Foreign Minister Yousuf Bin Abdullah, Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith, Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon and Arab League General Secretary Amr Moussa.
