A decision by the powerful Nuclear Suppliers Group was put off to Saturday, after the two-day negotiations could not lead to a consensus among the 45 members.

Friday's frantic negotiations, which spilled over late into the night, failed to result in a positive outcome for India despite New Delhi [Images] and Washington, DC, going all out to enlist the support of the powerful nuclear cartel for the India-United States nuclear deal.

The NSG's approval is necessary before the deal goes to the US Congress for the final approval, only after which the deal will kick in.

China, after blowing hot and cold over its approval at the NSG meeting, finally decided to come out against the deal, which resulted in the dissenters -- Ireland, Australia [Images] and New Zealand [Images] -- holding out till late into Friday.

The NSG meeting is expected to resume on Saturday at 1430 hours IST.
