Five Gawli men held in Maharashtra

Five activists of the Akhil Bhartiya Sena, floated by gangster Arun Gawli, were arrested by the police on Sunday when they tried to commit self-immolation at Sawarkar Chowk in Jalna, about 60 km from Aurangabad.

The activists, led by ABS district president Rajesh Raut, were protesting against Gawli's arrest in Bombay last week.

As soon as one of the activists poured kerosene on his self and lit the clothes, the police and public appeared at the scene and saved him. They also prevented the others from setting themselves on fire.

Earlier, the activists shouted slogans against the Shiv Sena--Bharatiya Janata Party government. All the five were later taken to the Jalna police station and a case was registered against them.

Meanwhile, two persons were injured when two unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle fired at them at Oshiwara, north-west Bombay on Monday.

The police said autorickshaw driver Mohan Shenge and Naseer Lala Saleemlala were standing near a hotel on S V Road, Jogeshwari West, when the duo fired in their direction.
