Veteran CPI leader dead in WB

Veteran Communist leader and former Lok Sabha member Kangsari Haldar died at a Calcutta hospital on Friday morning. He was 88.

A member of the Communist Party of India, Haldar was known for his role in the peasant uprising in the undivided Bengal.

He concentrated his activities in the Sunderban area, and was awarded death sentence for his armed battle against police repression.

Haldar represented South 24 Parganas in the Lok Sabha.
