Torrential rains claim six lives in Dakshina Kannada

Torrential rains accompanied by heavy winds continued to lash most parts of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka, claiming six lives in the last three days. All major rivers are overflowing.

Officials sources said on Friday that two labourers were killed in a house collapse at Bijai, near Mangalore. On Wednesday night two children were drowned when they fell into a pond at Ilintala near Uppinangadi. A woman was washed away in flash floods at Palimar on Thursday. One more person was drowned in a stream.

The Netravathi and Payaswini rivers are overflowing above the danger level. Bantwal town was marooned on Thursday, disrupting communication network.

Low lying areas were inundated, rendering several people homeless.

Vehicular traffic on the National Highway Number 17 at Bramharakutlu was disrupted due to flooding of the road.
