UP flood toll rises to 33

The toll in Uttar Pradesh in flood-related incidents has risen to 33 with four more deaths being reported from Basti district on Wednesday night.

Two women were reportedly killed in a house collapse following heavy rains in Amil Chawa village in Khalilbad tehsil, while one person died in Ramnagar and Alinagar villages respectively.

The water washed into hundreds of villages in Bareilly, Basti, Etawah, Sidharthnagar and Bahraich districts and inundated thousands of hectares of land.

An official release said part of the Lambgaon-Pratapnager road was closed to traffic due to heavy rains and landslides.

A central water commission release said the level of the Ganga was rising at Ainkinghat, Dalmau, Allahabad, Mirzapur, Varanasi and Balia and the Yamuna was rising at Mathura Agra and Allahabad.
