Five killed as rival mutt groups clash in Karnataka

Five people were killed in a group clash at Inchageri mutt in Indi taluk of Bijapur district in Karnataka on Thursday night.

A dispute over the control of the mutt between two groups was the cause of the clash.

District Superintendent of Police Pratap Reddy said about 40 members of the rival faction, armed with lethal weapons, came in jeeps and assaulted the inmates of the mutt.

Some of them even opened fire.

While four of the victims succumbed to injuries in a hospital, one was killed on the spot.

Police rushed to the mutt, arrested several persons in this connection and seized some weapons.
