No compromise on Almatti issue: Naidu

The Andhra Pradesh government will not compromise on the Almatti dam issue and the Upper Tunga projects and would fight to protect the state's interests, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu informed the state assembly on Wednesday.

Intervening during the question hour when Congress Legislature Party leader P Janardhan Reddy wanted to know what the government was doing to stop Karnataka from raising the height of the dam, Naidu pointed out that the issue was before the Supreme Court. He urged the Opposition members to co-operate with the government by keeping out politics as the issue concerned the state.

Earlier, Naidu said the government had chalked out a plan for expediting all major irrigation projects in the Krishna basin and backward areas of the state.

The bonds floated by the AP Water Resources Development Corporation may generate Rs 20 million against the targetted Rs 10 million, he added. In view of the good response, there was great scope for mobilising more resources through bonds in the coming months, he added.
