Yeleru land scam rocks assembly

The Yeleru land acquisition scandal on Tuesday rocked the state assembly with the Opposition Congress alleging that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and some of his ministerial colleagues had received kickbacks in the scam. Assembly proceedings were stalled for nearly an hour.

Raising the issue during zero hour, Congress Legislature Party leader P Janardhan Reddy alleged that Naidu and his colleagues received Rs 25 million.

Amidst loud protests by the Telugu Desam Party members Reddy demanded a CBI probe into the scam. The CLP leader said a government order was issued on February 1, 1996, releasing Rs 50 million as compensation for the lands acquired.

Assembly Speaker Y Ramakrishnudu asked the Congress leader to give notice before making allegations against any member while Naidu challenged him to prove his allegations before a judicial commission probing the scam.
