Suspend cops who raped four women: Majlis

Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen member Asaduddin Owaisi's demand for the suspension of two senior police officers who allegedly raped four women in Hyderabad generated heat in the Andhra Pradesh assembly on Wednesday.

Making a zero-hour mention about the reported incident, he alleged that two assistant commissioners of police summoned four women to a hotel and allegedly raped them. He demanded immediate arrest and suspension of the two officials.

Intervening, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that he would even dismiss them if Owaisi could provide evidence on the alleged incident.

He said that after he read a newspaper report he had directed the city police commissioner to look into the matter.

The high court has also summoned the newspaper which reported the incident, he added.

Naidu said officials could not be suspended on the basis of newspaper reports.
