Militant ambush leaves 2 soldiers dead, 8 injured in Nagaland

Two soldiers were killed and eight injured when suspected underground activists ambushed an army vehicle Wednesday night at Dimapur, 74 kilometres from Kohima.

The soldiers were travelling to Dimapur railway station when the ultras opened fire with automatic weapons on the circular road. Ten jawans were seriously injured; two later succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

Reinforcements have been rushed to the area and a combing operation is on.

This is the first militant ambush after the ceasefire declaration between the Centre and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (IM).
