749 cops with criminal links identified in UP

The Uttar Pradesh government has identified as many as 749 police personnel who have nexus with criminals.

According to an official spokesperson, these policemen included 658 constables, 56 constables and 29 sub-inspectors.

Incidentally, the Lucknow Range comprising Lucknow, Sitapur, Hardoi and Rae Bareilly districts has the maximum number of such police personnel, follows by the Kanpur, Varanasi and Allahabad ranges.

Departmental action, the spokesperson said, had been initiated against 104 policemen while 106 had been transferred. A total of 518 policemen with criminal nexus were transferred outside the zone, he added.

He claimed that the law and order in the state had improved during the last few weeks following stringent action against the criminals. The action against tainted policemen would bring about further improvement, he said.
