Ruling party MLAs protest against home minister

The Telugu Desam government today faced embarrassing moments in the Andhra Pradesh assembly with two ruling party members staging a sit-in protest. They were protesting against Home Minister A Madhav Reddy's 'inadequate' response over the acquisition of Israeli-built unmanned aerial vehicles for use in anti-Naxalite operations.

The two ruling party members, G Goverdhan and P V Krishna Babu walked into the well of the House during Question Hour and sat on the podium, complaining that the home minister had not given proper clarifications.

Earlier, the minister said the Israel Aircraft Industries Limited had rejected the state government's suggestion, seeking demonstrations of the vehicle for three to six months.

No decision has been taken about the multipurpose vehicle due to the financial crunch.

He denied that the finance department had cleared the purchase of the aircraft expected to cost around Rs 200 million.
