BJP prefers polls in Gujarat

The Bharatiya Janata Party would prefer a mid-term assembly election if the Congress pulls the rug from under the Shankarsinh Vaghela government.

Disclosing this in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, BJP president L K Advani lashed out at the Vaghela government. The state administration has gone haywire, he said, and the Congress would become irrelevant in Gujarat if it continued to support Vaghela.

As for his party's ties with the Bahujan Samaj Party, Advani said they were at present confined to Uttar Pradesh. The arrangement will be reviewed after Kalyan Singh government's six-month term in office.
