Gangster Sada Pawle killed in Bombay police encounter

Jailed gangster Arun Gawli's confidant Sada Pawle and one of his associates Vijay Tandel were on Friday afternoon killed in a police encounter at Ghatkopar in north east Bombay.

According to police sources, a 10-member police team led by assistant police inspector Vijay Salaskar trapped the notorious gangsters and asked them to surrender, when the duo opened fire.

The police returned the fire, injuring the gangsters. They were rushed to the nearby Rajawadi hospital where they were declared dead before admission.

Speaking to Rediff On The NeT, Deputy Commissioner of Police M B Shinde said, "On Thursday, when the police team searched Gawli's den Dagdi Chawl, the duo managed to evade arrest. On Friday, following a tip-off that they were travelling by a Fiat car near Rajawadi, the police laid a surprise trap.

''Though it is not clear how many rounds of fire were fired, the police recovered an AK-47 and a revolver from them."

Sada Mama Pawle was wanted in several cases of murder, attempt to murder and extortion, including the recent Thakkar murder case. Last year, Salaskar, in an encounter, shot dead underworld kingpin Amar Naik.
