"I chat with my mom via Yahoo! Messenger around three or four times a week. We both realised we could save on paper and telephone calls this way. I just want her to know that she's a special part of me. I don't know what I'd do without her."
Srinivas Shetty, 30, Data Mining Executive.

Dear Sunil,
How are you, beta? Good, no? We are fine also. Papa and Munni send their good wishes. How is your studies? How is your hostel place? How is the food there? How is weather condition? You are eating well, no? Sudhakar Kaka came home yesterday and asked for you. I showed him the photo of your college and he said it was very big.
I am sending a bottle of mango pickle for you, the one you like. Finish it all and send the empty bottle to me when you finish. Take care of yourself, eat lots of food, sleep well and study hard. Tell me if you want anything from home.
Love,
Mummy
"At first, I thought, email? That's so impersonal. Now, I'm addicted. I write to my kids, both in Dubai, daily."

Dear Mom,
I'm fine, how're you? What's been happening? The US is kinda cool, and I'm beginning to get the hang of it here. The guys are awesome, though some of them act a bit pricey. Studies are great. The faculty rocks. I'm into loads of stuff here, but I take time out to hang around at the mall every once in a while, you know, just to chill.
How're the folks back home? Tell him I said Hi. D'you need anything from here? Send me email if you do. You have my new address, right? It's devilsadvocate@hotshot.com
The pickle was great, as usual. The guys freaked out on it, and so did I. Keep sending the good stuff. Take care of yourself, and don't work too hard. Will write soon. Till then, hang ten.
Love, Sunil
"My mom is net-savvy, and that's an understatement. She's got a web cam, and so have I. Feels good to see her smiling there, on my PC, every night."

Dear Sunil,
I am not understanding a word you are saying any more. You have an accent in your writing also now or what? I don't like this email-femail. It takes me very long to type because I have to search for words on the board. So I will write you a letter soon. I made a new email for me. It's sunilsmummy@hotmail.com.
What is this devil devil you're making as your address? Can't think of any good words or what?
Love,
Mummy
"I have a house in Mumbai and another in Bangalore. One of my sons lives in Goa, while my daughter is married and settled in the US. So, what I do, religiously, is visit a cyber café every two days, and send them all email. It keeps our family together."
Mrs Usha Khanna, Bank employee.

Aw man, mom, you've gotta love email. Get the hang of the Web, surf a bit, hang out at some chat room. We can do this stuff. Will send you some tutorials online. My email addy is the coolest, and the guys here really dig it. I'll create a saner one for you though, just to make you happy. Anything for you, ma. As always.
Love,
Sunil
"Email has changed the way I see my mother. She lives in Pune while I'm in Mumbai, and I write to her a lot more. It has made us both more frank, more articulate. I think it has given our relationship a new direction."
Reshma Sharma, 22, College student
