British clubs face ban threat

England's top clubs have been told that if they join the proposed Super League, they will not be allowed to participate in both the Premier League and the F A Cup.

F A chairman Keith Wiseman told the media that any club playing unsanctioned football would be liable to bans from sanctioned football, with every body beginning with FIFA joining in the ban.

Even individual players taking part in the Super League will be excluded from the premier competitions, Wiseman added.

Given that FIFA has jurisdiction over all aspects of international football, the implications of the global body setting its face against the proposed Super League could be enormous, for both rebel clubs and players.

The Premier League has already asked its leading clubs, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool, to give assurances that they do not intend to join a Super League.
