Murdoch finger in Super League pie

The latest to dip his finger in the confused pie that is European soccer is Rupert Murdoch.

The media tycoon has reportedly entered negotations aimed at creating a Super League. Murdoch is now finalising modalities for a digital television tie-up with A C Milan boss Silvio Berlusconi's Fininvest, Saudi investor Prince Al Waleed bin Talal and Germany's Kirch Group. The idea is for the alliance to carry the Super League games on a pay-per-view basis.

A Berlusconi spokesman has confirmed that talks are on with Murdoch for the setting up of a pan-Europe television company, without however going into details.
