Manisha Malhotra and partner lose

Rising Indian women's player Manisha Malhotra and Leanne Baker's seven-match doubles winning streak came to an end on Sunday, when the pair lost in the final of the $10,000 San Antonio Satellite tennis tournament, to Emma Gott and Melanie Clayton of Australia, 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-5.

Last week they had won the doubles title at El Paso.

In singles, Manisha lost in the semi-finals to qualifier Lioudmila Skavronskaia, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Skavronskaia went on to win the title.

The Texas heat finally told on Manisha, who was playing her seventh match in five days (singles and doubles) - - out of which most were three-setters. She lost to the same opponent who she has beaten in straight sets last week.

The two weeks hard work gave Manisha only 1.5 and 2 singles points for the quarter-final and semi-final respectively. She is about to lose about 11 points from a final and a title last year at around this time, which will drop her ranking by about 50 spots.
