Anand for Frankfurt Chess Classic

Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand will play in the Frankfurt Chess Classic 2000, to be held in Frankfurt from June 17 To 25.

According to a fax message from Anand's sponsors, after an exhibition match against the chess program 'Fritz' in this two-event ompetition, Anand will take on five other strong players, including Garry Kasparov, Vladimir Kramnik, Alexi Shirov, Petr Leko and GM Alexander Morozevich in a rapid event. Except Kasparov, all the other players will take on the computer.

The two exhibition games against the computer will be played on June 17 and 18. The games will be of 50 minutes each (25 minutes per player).

The two-round rapid event will be played from June 22 and 25 under similar rules of rapid chess on round-robin basis.

Anand has been competing in the events held by the Frankfurt Chess Club since 1997. He had won the title in 1997 and 1998. In 1999, he finished second.

In the computer matches, Anand was a consecutive winner in 1998 and 1999.
