Jain, Shyam Gupta in last 8 of German Open

Siddharth Jain and Abhinn Shyam Gupta moved into the quarter-finals of the Yonex German Open badminton championship at Duisberg in Germany.

Jain beat teammate Sachin Ratti 15-12, 15-8 in the first round and accounted for Andreas Wolk of Germany 15-1, 15-11 in the second.

His next opponent is Belgian Numberone Ruud Kuiten.

Siddharth had beaten Ruud in the all-England championship this year.

Abhin, after overcoming Rehan Khan of Germany 15-6, 15-7 in the opening round, outshone compatriot Abhishek Bakshi 15-6, 15-8 for a place in the pre-quarters. He meets Chinese qualifier Chen Yu next.

Abhishek had beaten Rune Massing of The Netherlands in the first round 15-9, 15-5.

Chetan Anand also won his first round match against Brian Milroy of Canada 15-10, 13-15, 15-9, but lost to Yaduianto of Germany 6-15, 11-15 in the second.

In the women's section Aparna Popat lost to Miho Tanaka of Japan 5-11, 4-11; B R Meenakshi beat Anne Marie Pedersen of Denmark 11-8, 4-11, 11-4 in the first round and lost to Elena Nozdran of the Ukraine in the second round 4-11, 7-11; Parul Priyadarshini beat Caren Hueckstaedt of Germany 11-1, 11-1 but lost to 5/8 seed l Janssen of the Netherlands 2-11, 2-11 in the second round.
