Australian Patrick Rafter went down to the defending champion Agassi after his legs cramped up on him.

Agassi beat Rafter 7-5 2-6 6-7 6-2 6-3.

Rafter had led by two sets to one even though his legs had started to seize up early in the third set. He won just four more games as his muscles tightened more.

Rafter refused to abandon his natural serve-volley game, and approached the net a total of 128 times throughout the match.
