This has been Tommy Robredo's debut year of Grand Slam tournament play. He lost his debut Grand Slam tournament match at the Australian Open to eventual runner-up Arnaud Clement 6/3, 6/2, 7/5.

Tommy Robredo and his unseeded compatriot Albert Costa, who also plays today, were the only two Spanish men remaining in the draw. Both lost.
