US Open 2001

No. 10 seed Serena Williams, who won the US Open women's title in 1999 as the lowest seed in the Open Era, beat No. 3 seed and 1998 Open champion Lindsay Davenport, at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Serena Williams, who is making her fourth appearance at the US Open, won the title in 1999 as the lowest seed (No. 7) in Open Era history; she upset No. 1 Martina Hingis, No. 2 Lindsay Davenport and No. 4 Monica Seles en route to her first Grand Slam title.

Serena claimed her 10th career singles title this month in Toronto by defeating No. 3 Jennifer Capriati.
