US Open 2001

Kafelnikov may have had worked to perfection. Full of intense aggression the No.7 seed attacked everything that Kuerten tried to throw at him and came out on top.

"I'm thrilled to be through," said Kafelnikov, who won the Australian Open in 1999 and the 1996 French Open.

Kafelnikov, who had choked three quarterfinal contests to Kuerten during the Brazilian's three runs to Roland Garros title, never grew shaky during the third set. In the match's final game, Kafelnikov got a bit nervous at 15-15, but then charged the net three straight times and nailed the victory.
