Hewitt made Sampras look ordinary on Arthur Ashe Stadium as he raced around the centre court to retrieve whatever the 30-year-old American had to offer.

Hewitt won 7-6, 6-1, 6-1 handing Sampras his worst defeat since 1989 in the most lopsided final since Jim Courier lost 6-4 6-2 6-0 to Stefan Edberg in 1991.
