Bindra beats World champion Boshman to claim gold

Continuing his impressive showing, ace shooter Abhinav Bindra beat World champion Dick Boshman to win the gold medal in the Air Rifle championship in Ulm, Germany, on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old Indian ace shot a total of 701.1 (598+103.1) to beat Boshman by a slender margin.

Boshman was forced to settle for the silver with a score of 700 (597+103).

The bronze medal went to Norbert Ethner, of Germany, who finished with a score of 698.1 (596+102.1).

"I was confident that I would win a gold and I have won it. I am satisfied with my performance, as earlier I had an average of 595," said the Chandigarh-based lad, the lone Indian participant in the championship, which is an invitational event featuring only the top shooters on the European circuit.

Bindra will participate in his last competition in Wiesbaden, Germany, on Wednesday before returning to Delhi on Sunday.
