2. Gustavo Kuerten

Before Hewitt's dominance late in 2001, Gustavo Kuerten ruled the roost in men's tennis.

Affectionately known as 'Guga', he has a cult following among his Brazilian fans and in a country obssesed with football. That says a lot.

He claimed the French Open crown last year but injuries and a major slump in form robbed him of the chance to finish as World Number One

"If you don't get upset when you lose, it's very bad. You comfortable with losing, it's not fine. I feel disappointed and I feel frustrated."

Let's hope the disappointment of not finishing 2001 as No. 1 does not get the better of him this year.
