Big-serving Australian Wayne Arthurs was beaten by David Nalbandian of Argentina 4-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-7. Nalbandian, playing in his first Wimbledon, became only the second Argentine to reach the quarter-finals of the men's draw at Wimbledon, emulating Guillermo Villas, a losing quarter-finalist in 1975 and 1976.
