Humpy beats Bakre to move up

Men's Grandmaster-elect Koneru Kumpy (2486) regained lost form to humble fellow-Indian IM Tejas Bakre (2458) in the 11th round, in the First Saturday Grandmasters chess tournament in Budapest, Hungary, on Tuesday.

Following the victory, Humpy, the youngest woman in the world to complete the third and final men's Grandmaster norm recently, climbed to fourth position, with a tally of 6.5 points.

Overnight leader Vajda Levente (2535) of Romania, drubbed WGM Dembo Yelena (2363) of Hungary, to stay ahead with 8.5 points.

Bakre slipped to ninth position from sixth after his defeat to Humpy.

The tournament is being contested by 14 players, including three Grandmasters and an equal number of women GMs, with an average rating of 2431.

Of the 11 rounds played thus far, the Bank of Baroda-sponsored Humpy has won four, lost two and split points in the remaining five.
