As a result of the near collision, Rubens Barrichello stormed into the lead with Ralf Schumacher in close pursuit. The Ferrari driver seemed to in complete control as he ran up a 5 second lead. But the Williams had gambled on a single pit stop strategy and that turned the tide in their favour.
