Liverpool have turned to Ian Rush, the club's all-time leading goal scorer, as they seek to kick-start their misfiring attack.

Rush is set to join Liverpool's coaching staff to work with the club's strikers that include England duo Michael Owen and Emile Heskey and Czech international Milan Baros.

Liverpool have gone 11 English premier league games without a win, scoring only seven goals in a run that has cost them any realistic hope of winning the league title.

Liverpool's official web site said on Tuesday that manager Gerard Houllier had been involved in talks to persuade Rush, who has a UEFA coaching licence, to return to Anfield.

The former Wales striker scored 346 goals in 660 games for Liverpool, forming a lethal partnership with Scottish striker Kenny Dalglish in the 1980s as Liverpool dominated English soccer.

Rush, now 41, will coach Liverpool's strikers on a part-time basis once or twice a week, the web site said.
