Mundy wins Hindu Open golf

On a day of gripping action, Uttam Singh Mundy emerged triumphant, winning on the second play-off hole after he and C Muniyappa were tied at six-under par 282 at the end of the stipulated four rounds in the Hindu Open Golf 2003 in Chennai on Saturday.

Mundy, who returned the best score of five-under on Saturday, bagged the first prize of Rs 1,13,400 while Bangalore-based Muniyappa got Rs 78,400.

For the 24-year-old Muniyappa, who carded a three-under 69 today, it was his best-ever finish.

A stroke behind the leaders was Vijay Kumar, who finished with a 5-under 283.89, though he played a par-round.

Amritinder Singh of Chandigarh also shared the limelight when he played a four-under 68 and had a hole-in-one on the par-3 fourth (147-yards). He was placed sixth overall (287).

L Selvadurai, with a total score of 302, won the amateur section.
